Calls for improvements to Bracken Road Junctions
Pictured are Councillor Symon Fraser, Councillor Felicity Temple and residents of the Bracken Road estate at the junction of Duncombe Drive and Bracken Road.
Your ERYC Councillors have been campaigning for improvements to the road surface and road markings and we are pleased that the new lines showing priority were implemented shortly after this photo was taken in 2004.
The article that was published in the press at the time is reproduced below:
Concerned residents from the Bracken Road area have highlighted a growing road safety problem on their Estate.
An increasing number of vehicles are using the Duncombe Place route to shorten the journey from Beverley Road into Woldholme Avenue and the town. This in itself is not causing a problem but residents and East Riding Councillors Symon Fraser, Felicity Temple and Jonathan Owen are asking the Highways Authority to look into providing clearer road markings and signage to show motorist exactly who has priority on the roads.
The situation was recently highlighted by a very near accident between a car and a motorcycle.
Councillor Felicity Temple commented, As a resident of Woldholme Avenue I am well aware of the traffic increase over recent months. We will be backing the residents calls for the need improved markings to help the safety situation.
Councillor Symon Fraser added, The situation has changed since the housing developments on Bracken Road have been completed, the route is now open to through traffic and this has led to much more traffic using the roads, we will be pressing for improved road signage and markings to make the priorities much more clear, it is important that this is done before a serious accident happens.
Councillor Jonathan Owen remarked, The time is now right to look at both road markings and the overall condition of the estate roadways. The heavy builders vehicles have now gone and the East Riding of Yorkshire highways authority now need to look at a comprehensive maintenance programme for the estate both to improve safety and to tidy up the roads for the future. We have already asked the engineers to look tell us when the work is likely to be done and we will continue to press for the improvements.
Now we are pressing for speed tables and traffic calming near the grassed play area - and are pleased to say this is being considered. Watch this space.
