Driffield Councillors curry flavour on Flight to India

“Let’s go out for a curry” said Felicty.  Well it’s a rare thing to find her offering to take us out, so Jonathan and I jumped at the chance. “When shall we go?” asked Jonathan, “How about next Wednesday at about 6:00pm” came back Felicity’s reply.

Strange timing I thought, seems a bit early for a night out, I thought, then the penny dropped, Felicity was taking us out to the India day at Northfield School, Driffield.

The format of the event for the children had been that they had arrived at school that morning to be told that they were going on a trip to India. They were given flight tickets and boarding passes and then they boarded their imaginary flight.

In due course they landed in India, they found an Indian street market and various musical and dancing displays.

It was about 6:00pm when our flight landed at the school doors, we were met in the Airport Lobby by a guide holding up our names and shown to our seats for the evening's entertainment.

We were given a dance display by the children ably coached by an Indian lady, this was followed by a musical rendition by a sitar player and hand drums player.  The second part of this musical presentation included a dance display by a professional Indian Dancer.

Then came the promised curry, every one in the hall was served (by the children) a Chicken Curry with rice and poppadoms, supplied by the Trishna Tandoori Indian Restauant from George Streen here in Driffield.

Cllr Jonathan Owen commented, “What a brilliant evening we had!  It was great to see the children so enthusiastically and energetically involved in learning about far off cultures and ways”.

Cllr Symon Fraser remarked, “I was genuinely proud of being a governor at one of Driffield’s most successful schools, the whole exercise aimed to introduce different cultures and customs to the children and it was an obvious enjoyable success.”

Cllr Felicity Temple added, “What a tribute to the work of all the teachers, support staff and children. They all played a part in making the experience happen and in making it such a success we had a great time and really enjoyed our visit to India, Northfield style.”

So well done to everyone and a big thank you to all at Northfield Infants School from East Riding Councillors Felicity Temple, Jonathan Owen and Symon Fraser it was a pleasure to have been with you.
