Skool Dinners at Driffield!

East Riding of Yorkshire Councillors Symon Fraser and Jane Evison and Richard Harrap try a taste of dinner at Driffield Junior School.

The three Councillors were taking part in a Lifelong Learning survey of school dinners.

The Council are keen to find out how e new school dinner system is being received by the customers. So children’s comments are being sought on the school meals available throughout the county.

Councillor Harrap, from Bridlington, who is the joint chairman of the Lifelong Learning Overview and Scrutiny Committee commented, “The best way to find out about the lunches is to sit down with the children and try one, so we came to Driffield Junior School to do just that.”

Councillor Jane Evison, who represents East Wolds and Coastal ward joined the surveyors and added, “The children were great and were very candid in their comments, it’s very important to be in the first sitting for lunches as it seems that the choices are a bit reduced for the later diners, overall the pupils thought the dinners were great and the dinner ladies very good and friendly.” Councillor Evison added, “It was lovely to meet so many polite, happy and confident children, I really enjoyed my visit to the school.”

Councillor Symon Fraser, a ward councillor for Driffield commented, ” I had a good lunch, roast beef, mashed potatoes, carrots and Yorkshire puddings, but there was no chocolate sponge left for dessert and I had been given a very firm recommendation to choose the sponge.” Councillor Fraser added, “The children were great and very talkative about their dinner service, they were keen to praise the dinner ladies and the food and they were well able to point out the improvements which they would like to see. They were also very proud to show us all the improvement works which are being done to the buildings at the school.”

The results of the survey will be added to many others being carried out across the county and used to plan future improvements to the school lunch service.
