Driffield Branch Office Opens

HWCC Launch

On Wednesday I attended the opening of the Northern Wolds Branch Office of the Humber & Wolds Rural Community Council at Driffield.

The Chairman of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Cllr Mary-Rose Hardy officially opened the office and Sir Ian McDonald of Sleat, the President of the Humber & Wolds Community Council, made a speech highlighting the importance of this expansion in terms of jobs and the splendid location here in Driffield.

The HWCC will be employing nine people in Driffield, who will be providing services such as the My Bus scheme, taking youngsters out to Driffield School in the evenings to attend Duke of Edinburgh courses etc., and a central contact point for flexibus and other transport schemes through Colin Walker, their Transport expert who will be based there.

This all serves to highlight that Driffield is an important service centre to its rural hinterland.  This is a point we three Driffield East Riding Councillors have been trying to make to the ERYC Forward Planners to ensure that the Joint Structure Plan with Hull gives sufficient status to Driffield as not only a Market Town, like Pocklington, Hornsea and Market Weighton, but a Priinciple Market Town with many High Street names, excellent rail and bus links, excellent schools and a wonderful quality of life.  We need our town to thrive and continue to expand and the present Joint Structure Plan gives far too much weight to the M62 corridor.   We have a lot going for us and must continue to push for the best deal for Driffield.
