Driffield Pool - the truth

Update on funding for the refurbishment of Driffield Pool.

At the special full East Riding of Yorkshire Council Budget meeting councillors voted by a narrow majority to support a Conservative amendment to a Lib Dem motion allocating capital funds to the refurbishment of Driffield Sports Centre and Pool.

Cllr Owen, who addressed the meeting, explained the importance of the pool to Driffield people and the strength of feeling there was in the community for the facility.

In comment Cllr Owen stated: “When the pool was first built it was funded through public subscription and the agreement was that the then local authority would take on its maintenance. I am delighted that we have been able to persuade the ERYC to fulfil its obligations to the people of Driffield.”

After the meeting Cllr Fraser added: “I would like to thank the few councillors who backed the Conservative amendment and helped us secure the funds for our pool, I was staggered that the Lib Dem and Labour groups actually voted against the Conservative amendment which allocated the funds for the pool.”

Cllr Temple remarked: “Now we have to keep up the pressure to see that the work is done as soon as possible, we will continue to push for the earliest possible re-opening of the pool for Driffield folk.”
