Driffield Traders can top up skills
Driffield traders can now top up their skills after research has been carried out into the training needs of businesses in the Driffield area.
The research was compiled for the East Riding of Yorkshire Council's Skills Needs for Small Businesses Project, which is funded through the European Social Fund. This project aims to research the training needs of small and medium companies in the manufacturing and service sectors.
It then aims to improve the skill level of employees through flexible and customised learning opportunities.
The project was initially launched in the Haltemprice area where it was well received by local traders.
Driffield Councillors are delighted that once again Driffield is firmly on the business map. Cllr Symon Fraser said, "Following on from the 50+ Fair where I was pleased to see the Community Centre so full, we have once again ensured that Driffield is given a prime position for this new initiative." Cllr Jonathan Owen echoed, "We are delighted that funding is being used in our Market Town, it could easily have gone to another area" Cllr Felicity Temple added, "It is gratifying to see how important Driffield is becoming as a business centre and we welcome initiatives such as this to help our small businesses with their marketing strategies. We all need a helping hand from time to time and I am glad we in Driffield have a chance to benefit from this European money.
Bev Tamminen, who manages the Project said: "One of the advantages of the Project is that the traders have real input into the training offered. Through the research they decide what learning they require to begin to develop their workforce."
This research has identified that local traders want to develop their marketing skills and in response to this Bev will be running an introductory seminar about the subject in the near future.
It is anticipated that by working with local traders and meeting their training needs, businesses can grow and develop in the area benefitting the whole community.
