Reducing Crime in the East Riding

A recent survey of 1000 East Riding residents showed just how safe people feel in the East Riding , generally people are very satisfied with their security.

When asked what they would like to see done to improve their security the biggest priority was a resounding "more Policemen on the beat" cry.

People's biggest fears were of burglary and a close second goes to vehicle crime.

The incidence of almost all types of crime is reducing with the one exception of "theft from vehicles". There is a worrying upwards trend to this particularly upsetting type of crime.

The lesson here is a clear "Lock it or Lose it", the advice has to be :-

  1. If you are able, secure your car in a garage.
  2. Always lock your car.
  3. Always take valuable items out of your car.
  4. Or hide tempting items in the boot, out of sight of the opportunist thief.
  5. Always report anyone you see acting suspiciously near cars and get a description if you can.
