50+ Fair at Driffield

Councillors Owen, Fraser and Temple are delighted to announce that an Employment Fair will be taking place at the Driffield Community Centre on Tuesday 5th November between 10.00 am and 3.00pm.

The event is being organised by the East Riding's Over 50s Project Co-ordinator to give information on training, employment, self-employment and voluntary opportunities for those aged 50 plus.

This initiative is tied in with the recently extended Driffield Business Centre on Skerne Road, where free computer courses will be offered to those interested.

Councillor Temple stated, "I have always lamented the loss of talent and experience when people of mature years are made redundant.  It seems crazy to lose all that accrued knowledge and wisdom, far better to retain people who still want to work, even if they are over 50.  Perhaps all they need is some brushing up of keyboard skills, and this initiative is designed to do just that."

Councillor Owen added, "We have this marvellous new Business Centre and it is good to see it being put to this kind of use."

Councillor Fraser called for anyone interested to either get in touch or go along on the day.  "A wide variety of organisations will be represented at the Community Centre, so if you are over 50 and want to expand your work horizons, get yourself down there and see what is on offer."
