The Budget - Tax & Spend
The Budget Contains...
More Talk, More Taxes, No Change & No Difference
Speaking to conservatives.com, after Gordon Brown delivered his budget, the Shadow Chancellor, Michael Howard, said that over the last five years of the Labour Government taxes have gone up and public services have become worse.
This budget contains more talk and more taxes, with no change and no difference. Britain deserves world class public services, but all the Government does is tax more, waste more and fail to deliver improvements.
Mr Howard said that over the past five years, taxes have risen by £10bn, £1,600 a year for every man, woman and child in the country. Waiting lists are rising, violent crime and street crime is reaching epidemic proportions, teaches vacancies have doubled and the rail network is in chaos, he said.
He continued: The Conservatives believe in the ideals of the NHS and that first class healthcare should be available to all, regardless of their ability to pay. But Britain is further away from that ideal than at any time since the NHS was founded.
