Victory for People Power
There follows a Press Release given to the Driffield Times today, Tuesday 8th January 2002.
Driffield Councillors, Felicity Temple, Jonathan Owen and Symon Fraser, are in full support of today's Executive decision to make NO CHANGES to the catchment area for Driffield School.
Proposals to alter the schooling arrangement for children from Bainton and Middleton on the Wolds, have been kicked out by the Executive, following pressure from the ERYC Conservative Group.
This Executive decision will now be referred to Full Council on 16th January 2002 for ratification. The Conservative Group is fully in support of the decision and will be voting in accordance with today's decision - it is to be hoped that the Liberal Democrat group also abides by their Executive members' decision, and vote again with the Conservatives to retain the present arrangements.
Cllr Felicity Temple commented, "We have pushed hard for this decision and are delighted that the Executive have listened to parents' views and that they have been taken into consideration. It is a common sense outcome to what was a worrying issue for some of our children and parents.
She added, "Direct comment and letters from concerned residents were very helpful to us and showed that real consultation is very potent in these matters. Thanks to all the people who took time out to put pen to paper on this.
