Drainage Improvements for Wansford Road, Driffield

Drainage problems on Wansford Road which were highlighted during the extreme rains of 2007 have at last been addressed by new improvement works which are currently being implemented by the East Riding Council Highways department.

East Riding Councillor Symon Fraser commented, “Residents have been rightly concerned by the frequent standing water problems on this heavily used route. Sorting the drains out has been a major headache. Our ERYC Highways Officer Dave England has worked long and hard to find an answer. Various negotiations with developers and Yorkshire Water have put up obstacles to a number of seemingly satisfactory solutions. Our thanks go to Mr England for his persistence in sorting out an answer.”

Fellow Councillor FelicityTemple added, “We have shared the frustrations of the nearby residents over how long it has taken to sort the issues out, sadly sometimes simple remedies turn out to be much more complicated than you could ever imagine. Our job as local Councillors has been to keep the pressure on the ERYC to make the improvements.  It is very satisfying to see the works now being done. I too would like to pay tribute to Dave England for the way he has continued to search for a successful solution in undeniably difficult circumstances.”

Councillor Barbara Hall remarked, “The works are nearing completion, all that remains  is the resurfacing of the road and this will be done in the near future. The residents have been very patient and at the same time constructive and helpful and we are all delighted to see real progress on the drainage problems for Wansford Road. Hopefully these improvements will put an end to the repeated flooding problems in this area.”
