ERYC Councillors welcome highway improvements at Bainton.

Driffield's East Riding of Yorkshire Councillors welcome the start of two highway schemes at Bainton which aim to improve road safety in the village. One scheme provides for a zebra crossing across the busy main A614 road in the centre of the village the other scheme comprises the re-configuration of the junction just to the South of the main village.

East Riding Councillor Barbara Hall remarked, "The villages have been asking for some time for safety improvements to enable school students and adults to access buses and simply to join both halves of the village together and the new zebra crossing will do a lot to help."

East Riding Councillor Felicity Temple added, "The junction between the B1248 Beverley road and the main A614 road has posed a problem particularly for residents of Leafield Road for many years. The new junction layout will alleviate this problem and also dissuade drivers from speeding up as they leave the village thus improving road safety at this busy junction."

Councillor Symon Fraser commented, "A long and detailed process started by the Parish Council and supported by all Driffield and Rural Ward Councillors is now coming to fruition. There was a very strong concerted and constructive call from the village for highway improvements to address serious safety concerns. Survey work was done by the ERYC engineers supported by speed recordings by casualty reduction Officers, this highlighted the areas where works could be done with the aim of reducing the incidence of accidents. At all stages we made sure that the voices and opinions of the Parish Council and the villagers were heard and I am delighted now to see work start on the improvements."

Councillor Fraser continued, "I would particularly like to thank David Walford of the Parish Council for his input in chairing all of the meetings which have been held to progress this initiative and I would also like to acknowledge the dedication and work of Ian Burnett, Paul Copeland and the ERYC highways engineers who have pulled the project together."
