Driffield Councillors press for flooding protection

Driffield Councillors welcome new conditions to housing proposals to avoid future flooding.

Proposals to develop land behind the Chase Driffield are to be re-considered by the ERYC Planning Committee.

The proposals were deferred at the April meeting of the committee at the request of Ward Members Symon Fraser, Barbara Hall and Felicity Temple so that further discussions could be held with the developer to address the flooding issues of the area.

Driffield & Rural ERYC Councillor Symon Fraser commented, “I am delighted that the negotiations carried out by the East Riding Planners and the developers have resulted in a sensible and practical solution being put forward.”

Fellow East Riding Councillor Barbara Hall remarked, “The news that the go ahead on these schemes is now conditional on the re-instatement of the drainage will bring a great deal of relief to the residents of the New Walk and the Chase.”

East Riding Councillor Felicity Temple added, “The improvements to the drainage system for this area are long overdue, the proposed developments offers a once only chance to sort the problems out. I would like to thank the ERYC planners and the drainage officers who have worked to find a solution to the problems. This is a good outcome for the nearby residents.”
