Driffield Residents meet face to face with Developer.

Residents of Greenways, The Avenue and The Mount met with Mr Peter Coates of Quintor Homes to see how proposals for a development of eighteen apartments will fit in with existing properties.  Also attending were Councillor Symon Fraser and Councillor Felicity Temple, Ward Members for the East Riding.

The meeting, arranged by Driffield’s East Riding of Yorkshire Councillors was held at Driffield School’s Conference Room. Jonathan Ashworth, the East Riding of Yorkshire Council Planning Department case officer for these proposals, also attended.

Councillor Barbara Hall commented, “The meeting was set up so that the residents could hold face to face talks with the Developers to raise their concerns on these plans. We were fortunate that Driffield School could offer us a venue and we would like to thank the school for providing this additional community service.”

Councillor Felicity Temple remarked, “Nearby residents had worries about a number of issues, like the boundary treatments between their houses and the new development, the retention of an ancient hedge, the amount of off street parking available to the new residents and of course drainage.  Perhaps the biggest concern is the height of one of the new blocks, which as the proposals stand, will be three stories high.”

Councillor Symon Fraser said, “People are often legitimately worried about how their homes will be affected by new development. What we have found is that the fears can sometimes centre on uncertainty and misunderstanding.  It can be really helpful just to sit down and talk things through with a developer.  Sometimes relatively small changes to a proposal can make a big difference to nearby householders. In this case the developer agreed to work with the residents who live right next to the site on a number of issues which had been worrying them, boundary fencing and on site landscaping to name just two.”

Councillor Temple added, “Neighbouring residents are united in their desire to see this site developed, we as their Ward Councillors just want to see them get a development which fits in with the surrounding area.   If a meeting with Developers helps to achieve this then we are delighted to bring the parties together. The planning process will now continue.”
