Driffield Councillors welcome Walking & Cycling workshop

East Riding of Yorkshire Council Highways Officers are to stage a “Walking & Cycling Workshop” to show Driffield residents what footway and cycleway improvements are planned for the town and to encourage comment on the proposals.

Councillor Symon Fraser commented, “Just to allay your fears, the workshop is not just for toddlers or those just learning to ride a bike, the workshop is for everybody who use Driffield’s footways and cycleways. The East Riding Council wants to hear what people think of the planned improvements. The aim is to help the East Riding Council better target its resources at the areas which residents and visitors think are most important.”

Councillor Felicity Temple remarked, “I know that these workshops have been used successfully in other towns and I am delighted that Driffield residents will be able to voice their views on improvements for the town. The more we can encourage people to walk and cycle to the town centre the better our town will be for all of us, I use my bike as much as possible when I need to visit residents or to go shopping in the town and any improvements to both walking and cycling facilities will be very welcome.”

Councillor Barbara Hall added, “As a non-driver I particularly welcome any footway investment.  The workshop session will help specific user groups like the disabled have a real input in the future works on Driffield’s footways.   For instance, there are an increasing number of people using mobility scooters and aids and we need to be sure that wherever we can we make the footways better for all users.”

The workshop session is to be held from 1:30pm – 4:30pm on September 27th at the Business Centre, Scotchburn Park, Skerne Road, Driffield.
