Update on Ted Nicholson’s Garage Development Proposals

Residents met on Wednesday evening with the developers of the site to view the latest ideas being put forward.

The original plans, which were withdrawn after a planning officer recommendation for refusal, had been re-drafted by the developers to address many of the concerns which had been raised by residents in the immediate neighbourhood.

The new proposals reduce some of the bulk of the development and remove the main concern which had been its dominance and overlooking of adjoining properties.

Residents from Bridlington Road and Greenlands were able to have very constructive discussions with the developers to tackle remaining issues of concern. The developers in response offered to co-operate wherever possible with adjoining property owners to arrive at mutually agreed boundary treatments, landscaping and on site lighting.

Mr Antony Knapton, the developer, was frank and open about the need to develop the site to recoup the likely costs of de-contamination but he expressed willingness to work with residents to arrive at a scheme which lived in harmony with its neighbours.

Councillor Symon Fraser commented, “We are pleased that we have been able to open up a communication between developers and residents. It was very good for those living nearby to be able to see the computer model of the proposals.  It made it much more easily understood and it was really useful for residents to be able to speak face to face with the developer and raise their concerns.”
