Election Pledges - Driffield & Rural
ELECTION SPECIAL: Work on the Sports Centre Project, which has been going on for months with consultation, the design stage and contractor selection is now drawing to a close, and the actual construction phase, as reported in the Driffield Times and Post, has now started. Make no mistake, Conservatives fully support recycling - our track record speaks for itself. We are committed to:
-
Weekly Refuse Collection
-
Continuing to improve Recycling - We introduced the Blue Bins for paper, plastic and tin recycling. We introduce the Green Bag system for garden waste and 7-day Opening for our Household Waste Recycling Site at Kellethorpe
-
Road maintenance, Winter Gritting, (We added the Sledmere/Garton road to the route and have asked for Station Road in Garton to be added for next year)
-
Street Cleansing and Street Lighting - including replacement of columns
-
Investing in schools, education, libraries, museums, leisure, sports and recreational facilities, including parks and open spaces (North End Park was given a massive face-lift thanks to external funding your three Driffield Conservative Councillors successfully bid for)
-
Engaging with young people to make sure that the facilities and services provided meet their needs
-
Public Transport including Concessions for the over 60's - Red and Green Bus Passes introduced, and reduced rate for national rail travelcards
-
Tackling anti-social behaviour
-
Support for the elderly to live at home wherever possible through aid/adaptations and services such as Lifeline - this was also thanks to the Conservative budget which addressed the year on year shortfall, although sadly this was not supported by all groups at County Hall
-
Regeneration, business support and inward investment
-
Protecting our heritage and environment
-
Including you in the decision-making process
-
Keeping the Council Tax below the national average
-
Fighting alongside residents against inappropriate development (as we did for the residents of Greenlands/Greenways and Newland Avenue
