Crowds throng to Driffield Compost GiveAway
Saturday's Farmers' Market at our very own Showground was the venue for the East Riding's latest GiveAway. Trailer loads of rich, steaming compost were shovelled into bags by Council staff as residents waited patiently. This is the latest in a series of initiatives to reduce landfill and give back to the community what they need. Previous GiveAways have included composted bark chippings, which also proved a huge success. Gardeners from across the area flocked to the site, also swelling the numbers at the Farmers' market.
Councillor Felicity Temple and Mrs Barbara Hall were there on behalf of Driffield In Bloom and went home fully laden! Cllr Temple said, "This event was advertised in the council's own East Riding News so the response is a good indication of how many residents read and value the information it contains. There were huge crowds when we arrived, and still the people kept coming. Our staff worked really hard to keep things moving and I must congratulate them all on their efforts - it was thirsty work!
