St John's Road, Driffield - an end to the puddles

Remember this?   Hopefully puddles like these are a thing of the past.

Driffield Councillors have been heading a campaign for several years to get small road improvements in Driffield further up the priority list.  These include the road markings on Bracken Road and the safety measures for the play areas, the Bridlington Road cycle lane markings as part of the safe routes to school, and now finally, after much lobbying the St John's Road/Woldholme Avenue puddles have been drained!

New gullies were put in a fortnight ago, linking the areas that flooded regularly with the gullies already on Woldholme Avenue.  Now there will be dry feet as we cross the roads after a shower and no more risk of being splashed by speeding traffic.

Councillor Felicity Temple said, "I always felt slightly guilty about pressing for this improvement as it was going to directly benefit me!!  This is my route to almost everywhere and I walk along here daily.  However, it was also going to benefit the 400 households who access the town via Woldholme Avenue, so it was well worth urging our Highways Department to keep it in the front of their minds."

Councillor Symon Fraser, portfolio holder for Highways and Waste added, "It is these simple improvements, which don't cost so much in the great scheme of things, which make life much easier for our residents - this is what we want and we will keep pushing for Driffield and our rural villages."

Councillor Jonathan Owen, deputy Leader of the Council also added, "As always it is a question of budget.  This last year the Conservative Group added extra funding specifically for footpaths and small works such as this.  Due to this increase we are able to take on jobs that improve the environment for all."
